Why Nigerians Are Losing Confidence In NLC – Oshiomhole

The Edo state governor and former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Adams Oshiomhole has said that Nigerians have lost confidence in the NLC claiming that the new leadership of the congress has a lot to do to reclaim its credibility.
According to Leadership newspaper, Oshiomhole stated this during a courtesy visit he paid to the leadership of the NLC in Abuja. He said most Nigerians have the belief that the NLC had gone to sleep in the last eight years.
Oshiomhole said the NLC must set an economic agenda for the incoming government to protect the interest of workers.
He said the NLC must also talk with outgoing governors who owe their workers salaries to ensure that all unpaid salaries are paid to workers before they handover.
Speaking on the economy, he said the PDP-led administration had mismanaged the nation’s economy, lamenting that the incoming APC government will be inheriting a huge debt burden.
On the NLC election, he said there is a need for the union to put its house in order so as to work in unison in the interest of workers. He said labour activists should not behave like politicians who will do anything to get power.
He said the election that brought in Ayuba Wabba as NLC president was credible, free and fair.
In his remarks the NLC president, Ayuba Wabba, said the NLC is working hard to regain the confidence of workers. He said, “I am convinced that there is need to regain the confidence of our members and employers.”
He said that the NLC will work with the incoming government to promote policies that will create jobs and empower more Nigerians
Last month, Ayaba Wabba was elected president of the NLC, but his opponent Joe Ajero of the Nigeria Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) declared he did not accept the outcome of the election.
The issue of the NLC president has created a lot of division within the group. Wabba though is still the head of the congress. The NLC was one of the major voices calling for Nigerians to shun post-electoral violence.
In the aftermath the elections the NLC thanked Nigerians for allowing democracy to rule.
