Tips For Maintaining A Long Distance Relationship - Romance

House this read up might help you in coping with your Long Distance Relationship

Author Lia Togliatti

My boyfriend and I have been in a long distance relationship for quite a long time. We met almost 10 years ago in NY. We had an instant attraction, it was love at first sight. We spent a wonderful summer together, and even though we didn't expect it to go any further than a summer romance it was terribly hard to say goodbye.

He flew back to his home country and 2 weeks after that I went home too. We still kept in touch, but school, work, home, friends and just regular routine took its toll. Slowly but surely we stop messaging each other. I went back to NY the next summer but he didn't.

They say time is the best doctor and I agree. The pain wasn't as sharp anymore, but I couldn't get him out of my mind. He started messaging me out of the blue, and I felt butterflies in my stomach again. But we were oceans apart, both teens, not knowing how to work it out. At that time I was dating someone so was he but I wasn't happy. Neither was he.

Few years in the future.

He messaged me before the New Years saying he couldn't stop thinking about me, and I knew pretty well what he meant. We decided to try and work this whole thing out. We are together now, we are older, wiser, we learnt from our mistakes.

I came up with tips for maintaining a healthy long distance relationship:

1. Try to talk regularly, especially before going to bed. Use Viber, Phone, anything that can help you. It gives each of you some sort of security that you are not with someone else, you are loyal.

2. Skype and Facetime. It's very important to see each other, laugh together, it brings you closer.

3. Send each other some gifts, postcards, letters (letters are way better in this case than messages). It shows you care for each other, and it brings that childish joy when you open those packages.

4. Focus on your goals in other areas of your life. It helps you grow and makes you more interesting.

5. Share knowledge. Telling each other how much you love and miss each other is good but it can get too much. To avoid it, keep learning, keep reading, and exchange your knowledge. It helps your relationship big time.

6. Don't forget, there is gonna be distractions, time difference isn't an easy part, but you should always keep in mind you are doing it for your happiness.

If it's worth it, work for it!
